Crap I've kept for a decade or so.

Remember how I posted about a Coke I'd kept since mid-1996? There are plenty more boxes where that came from.

Behold, the Holly Hobbie pillow case, circa 1976.

I am going to be selling most of the things from the boxes. We are going to have a ginormous yard sale. This item will not be in the yard sale.

As a kid I loved Holly Hobbie. I had a cereal bowl that was white but had her picture at the bottom. This was when I was so little my mom poured my cereal before I got to the table. I would eat as fast as I could and drink the milk to see if it was a Holly Hobbie day. It was always a good day when it was a Holly Hobbie day.

Stay tuned for more fantastic items I kept for way, way too long.

In the Paper Today

You know, I love to read the newspaper. I. Am. Old.

Want to know what's in there today? Let's see, Jerry Sloan is retiring... Walmart fired another good-samaritan employee (Shocker.)... and, oh. My favorites. The Classifieds...

Ok, these actually didn't come from the paper. They came from Jessie. Jessie is funny. She should have her own comic strip.

  • Artificial Christmas Tree 6 1/2 feet tall with stand in box ex cond $10.00 The original box was unable to make it and sent in a last-minute replacement.
  • King size water bed with drawers underneath sheets, pillow cases included and padded side railings. Has new mattress. Must sell, daughter moving home. $150 OBO Because it's no longer 1983. Apparently, they're also selling their daughter and 'mobile' home.

Formerly a Soda

On May 10, 1996 the Olympic torch came through Utah on its way to Atlanta, GA for the summer Olympics. Around that day Coca Cola went to my high school and gave out bottles of Coke. In high school I didn't drink soda at all, especially Coke. But I took one anyhow. I think I was hoping I was capturing a piece of history.

Fast forward to last weekend. In a box in a garage I found I still had this bottle. Have you ever wondered what a nearly fifteen-year-old soda looks like? Behold:

I opened it and took a whiff. Anyone want to guess what it smelled like?

It smelled just like Pepsi.

Today we learned where Pepsi comes from. You are welcome.

It's a little dreary out today, too. Weird!

I've been e-cleaning my blog. I came across this draft I wrote late July, 2008. If you are lucky enough to know Cami this'll make you miss her. If you don't know her this will make you want to know her.

Miss you, Cami. We should get together. Call me. I'm terrible at being the first to call or email.*

Cami's funny.

Cami and I have been exchanging emails today. Here is the closing paragraph from her last email:

I’m also having a hard time focusing right now. I’m sleepy after lunch and ready to go home. It’s cloudy and dark outside; I think it’s going to rain. So that makes me want to go home and cuddle up with a blanket and read or sleep or just look outside and pretend I’m independently wealthy and never have to work again.

*apparently I have no qualms about being the first to post on a public blog. Hm.

They DO exist!

I was riding on the bus the other day -- yes, I've been relegated to being bus-rider. It's really not so bad, knowing you're using public transport and helping the environment. Oh, yeah. And did I mention it's FREE?? Awesome.

Anyway, I'm sure all you people out there had figured there was no such a mythical creature as BIGFOOT. Well, think again!! Eat your heart out, National Enquirer; I got the tabloid scoop of the century!

Everyone, meet Harry. He was sitting on the bus in front of me. I'm pretty sure he was on the way to the Henderson's.

Hermits aren't known for their long walks.

January was an awful month for me. I won't go in to details (you're welcome). But I am down about 13 pounds from the end of last year. To get down to my goal weight (as calculated by my once-dietician from The Diet Center) I still need to drop 31 pounds. Right now my goal is another six, then ten more after that, and another ten. We'll see how I feel then.

I'm wearing my pedometer again. Does anyone else still wear those or are they out of style now? Were they ever in style? It's sad how little I move during the day. Now that I'm not leaving the house my steps are typically around 3000 to 3500. /whimper/ I'm hoping once it warms up I can venture outside for walks and such.

My goal for this week is to do 5000 steps a day. That's half of the minimum I should be getting. I should be able to do that. (:

Color-Blind

I realize that I am no fashionista. (Looking at old high school pictures this weekend is solid proof!) BUT I like to think that I have some sort of good taste in me somewhere. It's just usually outside of my price range. But I digress.

I admit my taste can be a bit boring. I like timeless pieces, classics that won't go out of style in, like, 2 days. My favorite are styles from the 40's or 50's, clothes that were actually CUTE. If I was someone that was so trendy I didn't have to follow trend, I would wear that stuff. (I'd also have to be a size 4, so I guess that's moot.)

Anyway, I was browsing etsy.com, that adorable little online store for all things handmade, and I ran into these:

Help me out here, WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THESE ARE CUTE?!?! I'm serious. Am I the only one whose eyes are bleeding at the sight of these combinations? Paisleys and polka-dots? Lime green and magenta? I think any one of these fabrics is busy enough to stand on its own... on the store shelf... collecting dust...

I suppose I'm just out of the loop... I guess I should apologize for mocking my little brother when he wore stripes and plaids together 15 years ago. How could I have guessed he was so fashion forward?
